ABB Supports Vietnam’s Energy Transition and Digital Transformation Efforts
ABB commits to aiding Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII with electrification, automation, and workforce partnerships amid rising energy and data centre demands.
ABB has confirmed its support for Vietnam’s energy transition and digital transformation by providing advanced electrification and automation technologies, aligning with the country’s industrial modernisation goals under Power Development Plan VIII.
Investment Needs Rise with Industrial Modernisation
Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII anticipates a requirement of $136 billion for power generation and transmission infrastructure investments through to 2030. This level of investment underlines the scale of development necessary to meet growing energy demands and efficiency objectives.
Concurrently, the nation’s data centre power capacity is expected to grow from around 580 MW in 2025 to nearly 980 MW by 2030. This increase intensifies the need for reliable, efficient, and sustainable power infrastructure solutions to support digital expansion.
Workforce Development and Industry Collaboration
ABB is advancing workforce skills and knowledge through partnerships with Vietnamese educational institutions, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Industry, RMIT University Vietnam, Ton Duc Thang University, and Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City.
These collaborations encompass industry-specific training, knowledge exchange, and access to ABB’s advanced technologies, facilitating the development of talent essential for sustaining Vietnam’s industrial and energy transformations.
According to ABB, these measures support the country’s efforts to modernise its energy infrastructure and digital capacity, providing a foundation for more efficient and sustainable industrial operations going forward.
Looking ahead, Vietnam’s continued investment in energy infrastructure and digital technologies will be critical to meeting the targets set in Power Development Plan VIII, with further collaboration between technology providers and local institutions expected to play a key role.
