Samsung Electro-Mechanics Advances Laguna Manufacturing with P2-Billion Inductor Plant

Samsung Electro-Mechanics Philippines is planning to expand its manufacturing facilities in Laguna with a proposed P2-billion investment for a plant dedicated to producing inductors, a key component in advanced electronic devices. The company has submitted its proposal to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) for approval, anticipating the construction of a new factory at the Calamba Premiere International Park.

Expansion Complements Existing Capacitor Operations

This proposed project supplements Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ ongoing P50.7-billion expansion of its multilayer ceramic capacitor manufacturing operations in Calamba, further reinforcing Laguna’s role as a significant hub for electronics manufacturing in the Philippines.

PEZA has also revealed that Samsung is preparing an additional investment opportunity, expected to exceed the P2-billion plant, although an official application has not yet been submitted.

Implications for Local Supply Chain and Industry

The expansion could influence the regional supply chain substantially. PEZA reports that roughly 30 Tier-1 suppliers associated with Samsung Electro-Mechanics plan to visit the Philippines in October to explore potential investments and localisation of their operations.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has operated its Calamba facility since 1997, producing multilayer ceramic capacitors and inductors used across electronics and automotive sectors. The company’s continued investments align with government efforts to attract more semiconductor and electronic manufacturing, encouraging global firms to integrate more of their suppliers domestically.

The development is expected to enhance manufacturing capacity, supply chain integration, and reinforce Laguna’s position in the electronics sector. The forthcoming supplier visits may generate further investment activities in the province.
