Expanded Facility Enhances High-Tech Manufacturing Capabilities
The new facility, situated within Thang Long Industrial Park II, covers over 250,000 square metres, representing a significant expansion of Molex’s manufacturing footprint in Vietnam. This site adds advanced manufacturing, engineering, and quality assurance resources to support increasing demand from data centre clients.
Workforce Growth Anticipated by 2026
The Hung Yen plant currently employs around 5,000 people. Molex projects this workforce will expand to approximately 8,000 employees by the end of 2026, emphasising a substantial increase in local high-tech manufacturing jobs.
Second Vietnamese Operation Complements Hanoi Site
This expanded site supplements Molex’s original facility in Hanoi, which spans 28,000 square metres and has been operational since 2007. The Hanoi plant currently employs about 1,000 workers. Both sites support integrated engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and support functions.
Design Focuses on Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability
Molex designed both Hung Yen and Hanoi facilities to optimise operational efficiency and promote environmental sustainability. The sites incorporate energy-saving technologies such as on-site solar power, professional power management systems, LED lighting, electronic controls, and inverter-driven air conditioning. These systems are managed via integrated building management systems to monitor and optimise energy consumption.
Implications for Manufacturing and Workforce Development in Asia-Pacific
The expansion strengthens Molex’s production capabilities for high-speed data centre components, a critical market in Asia-Pacific’s digital infrastructure growth. The significant increase in workforce not only supports production scale-up but also implies sustained investment in local skills development. Molex’s focus on modern, employee-centred facilities may contribute to higher standards in workplace environment and operational reliability within the region’s manufacturing sector.
Long-Term Commitment to Vietnam’s Industrial Ecosystem
Joe Nelligan, CEO of Molex, highlighted Vietnam’s importance, noting the country’s talent pool and conducive environment for global operations. The company views this expansion as part of a long-term growth strategy to better serve multinational customers with manufacturing proximity in Asia-Pacific.
Outlook for Molex’s Operations
Molex’s continued investment in Vietnam is aligned with the broader demand growth for data centre infrastructure. Monitoring how the company scales production and integrates new technologies at Hung Yen will be key to understanding supply chain resilience and innovation within the high-speed connectivity components sector.
