Innobiz Association Trains 130 Smart Factory Professionals in Indonesia as Industrial Transformation Advances

The Innobiz Association completed training for 130 smart factory professionals in Indonesia, advancing efforts to support smart factory adoption among local manufacturers as part of an industrial transformation programme jointly backed by the Korean government and the Innobiz Association.

Local Training Programme Delivers Practical Skills in Smart Factory Operations

The training, held from 14 to 17 September 2026 at BINUS University’s Bekasi Campus, involved 24 participants from local manufacturing firms, the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperatives, and BINUS University. The curriculum combined theoretical and hands-on instruction on smart factory technologies.

Topics covered included understanding smart factories and Industry 4.0 concepts, operation of production equipment such as PLCs and conveyors, SCADA/HMI-based monitoring systems, production data analysis with real-time dashboards, and MES-based management of production, quality and equipment.

Four-Year Workforce Development Goal Achieved

The training completed in September represents the final cohort of a four-year project launched in 2023. Since inception, a total of 130 smart factory professionals have been trained, meeting the workforce development targets set for this period.

A completion ceremony was held on 17 September recognising the participants’ achievements and marking progress in building local expertise critical for smart factory adoption among Indonesian small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Seminar Focuses on Manufacturing Data and Artificial Intelligence

The following day, the “2nd Korea-Indonesia Smart Factory Seminar 2026” convened approximately 80 representatives from governments, academia and industry. This seminar expanded upon discussions held in June’s first seminar, with a focus on manufacturing data management and artificial intelligence (AI) applications in smart factories.

Topics presented included manufacturing site data management, strategies and case studies for AI use in advancing smart factory capabilities, manufacturing data preprocessing and analysis, and practical applications of AI-based data utilisation.

Programme Supports Indonesian Manufacturing Innovation

The overall initiative, named “Smart Factory Adoption and Professional Training ODA Project for the Industrial Transformation of Indonesia,” is administered by the Korean Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Innobiz Association. Its objective is to facilitate the adoption of smart factory technology in Indonesian manufacturing SMEs by developing professional capabilities and establishing training centres such as the one at BINUS University.

Implications for Industrial Operations in Asia-Pacific

The programme’s achievements contribute towards enhancing operational efficiency, production transparency and data-driven decision making among Indonesian manufacturers. Upskilling the workforce on smart factory systems promotes sustainability and resilience throughout production and supply chains, supporting regional industrial competitiveness.

Moreover, the cooperation between Korean and Indonesian institutions demonstrates a model for cross-border industrial technology transfer and capacity building in the Asia-Pacific region.

Next Steps: Productivity Evaluation and Further Collaboration

The Innobiz Association plans to conduct a productivity evaluation in the second half of 2026 to measure the impact of the training and technology transfer activities. It also intends to hold a third smart factory seminar later in the year, aimed at fostering additional business partnerships between Korean and Indonesian companies engaged in smart manufacturing.

An Innobiz official stated that collaboration will continue centred on the Smart Factory Training Center at BINUS University, with sustained efforts in professional training and technology exchange to advance Indonesia’s manufacturing innovation agenda.
