Indonesia’s PLN Group has signed five strategic partnerships with an estimated combined value of up to Rp3.3 trillion at Electricity Connect 2026, covering solar power, battery storage, substation modernisation, equipment maintenance and power-sector supply chains. The agreements were announced at ICE BSD City in Tangerang on September 22 as PLN expands its electricity infrastructure and industrial services.
Quick Skim
- Solar and Battery Storage to Replace Diesel Generation
- High-Voltage Substation Modernisation Targets Local Equipment
- Partnerships Strengthen Electrical Equipment Supply Chains
- Generator and Electric Motor Maintenance Included
- PLN Expands Power Plant MRO Services Across Asia-Pacific
- Electricity Connect 2026 Brings Together Energy and Industrial Partners
Solar and Battery Storage to Replace Diesel Generation
One of the five collaborations focuses on combining solar power with battery energy storage systems (BESS) in isolated areas.
The hybrid systems are intended to reduce reliance on diesel-fired electricity generation while supporting power supply in locations that are difficult to connect to the main grid.
For remote communities and industrial operations, integrating solar generation with storage could reduce fuel requirements while allowing electricity generated during daylight hours to be used when solar output is unavailable.
High-Voltage Substation Modernisation Targets Local Equipment
PLN is also pursuing the modernisation of high-voltage substations, with an emphasis on increasing the use of domestically produced electrical components.
The initiative is intended to support Indonesia’s local electrical-equipment industry as the country upgrades its power network.
Substations are critical to transmitting and distributing electricity, making equipment availability, maintenance and reliable operation important considerations as power demand grows.
Partnerships Strengthen Electrical Equipment Supply Chains
Another collaboration focuses on securing supplies of critical electrical components and transferring technology to support domestic industrial capabilities.
The initiative comes as Indonesia prepares for greater electricity demand from industrial processing, data centres, digitalisation and electrification.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the company is pursuing a wider programme involving solar power, battery storage, grid development and digitalisation to support the country’s changing electricity requirements.
Generator and Electric Motor Maintenance Included
Equipment reliability is also part of the partnership programme, with one agreement covering maintenance of generators and electric motors.
These assets are essential to power generation and industrial operations. Their condition can affect plant availability, operating efficiency and maintenance costs.
The collaboration places asset maintenance alongside new power infrastructure as PLN develops its electrical services and technical capabilities.
PLN Expands Power Plant MRO Services Across Asia-Pacific
PLN Group is also seeking to expand its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for power plants into Asia-Pacific markets.
Through PLN Indonesia Power Services, the group is promoting its maintenance capabilities and pursuing industry partnerships to support power-generation asset reliability and regional service opportunities.
The expansion would extend PLN’s industrial-service activities beyond Indonesia’s domestic electricity network.
Electricity Connect 2026 Brings Together Energy and Industrial Partners
Electricity Connect 2026 provided a venue for PLN, technology suppliers, investors and other industry participants to develop partnerships across the power sector.
The five agreements span both new infrastructure and the systems needed to operate it, from renewable generation and energy storage to substations, component supply and equipment maintenance.
Together, they outline PLN’s approach to expanding Indonesia’s electricity infrastructure while developing local industrial capabilities and regional maintenance services.
